+-----------------------------------+ | | | STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION | | "A Final Unity" | | | | Readme.txt file | | New installer | | | | Game version 1.0 | | July 14, 1995 | | | +-----------------------------------+ Introduction ============ This new installer allows you to install the game even if your computer system does not appear to meet the minimum system requirements. This should solve any problems with installing STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION "A Final Unity" on NexGen machines since they are detected as 386 machines. Instructions ============ To make sure you have the latest version of the installer, type "DIR INSTALL.EXE" and look for a file creation date of 07-07-95. To run the new installer: 1. Change to the drive and directory where the new installer is located. 2. Type "INSTALL -D[d]" where [d] is the letter of the CD-ROM drive. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is D, type "INSTALL -DD" at the DOS prompt. If your CD-ROM drive is F, type "INSTALL -DF". 3. Follow the instructions onscreen and in the Installation and Loading Guide. NexGen Computers ================ Because the NexGen procesoor is not completely compatible with the Intel 80486 instruction set, "A Final Unity" will not run. The game will crash with a DOS/4GW error message. However, you can work around this problem by changing your CMOS configuration. If you are not an experienced computer user, we recommend you consult your computer dealer in order to change your CMOS configuration. If you do feel comfortable changing your CMOS configuration, first reboot your computer and hold down the DELETE key as it reboots. Then choose "Chipset" from the Setup options. Click on "Alternate Instructions" to turn that option ON. Press ESC and choose "Save changes and Exit." In addition, Tactical space combat will run slower because of the NexGen's lack of a math coprocessor.
